Up for grabs is a tape measure, invisible thread in smoke by YLI, multi-colored Coats & Clark thread, a Fiskars 6" rotating cutting mat, Simple Circles acrylic rulers, and a Ty Pennington jelly roll. The mat is pre-loved, so please pardon some surface scratches; it won't affect the usefulness. All the other items are in perfect condition!

Round Robin - Abby's Quilt

The Modern Quilting Facebook Group has started Round Robin Groups. Each member creates a starter block, which is passed to another member, who then adds to the top. The quilt tops are passed to every member of the group. At the end of the rotation, each member receives their top back with a contribution from every member of the group. You may recall my starter block, which is a paper-pieced mermaid.

Abby West of ColorBar Quilts selected a color palette of gray, black, white and yellow. I received this  gorgeous improvisational piece in the mail. I didn't want to lose any of the tiny yellow triangle tips, so I decided t ocut the outer edge on the top and left sides deliberately more wavy.

I set each side over the top of black Kona fabric.

I used my rotary cutter to make a curvy line, making sure to have at least 1/4" for seam allowance beyond each triangle.

I removed the portion of the black Kona fabric that was underneath the starter block.

A Bohin chalk pencil was used to make registration marks, and I pinned the fain those spots.

I began to sew with a 1/4" seam, removing the pins just before running them over, and using my multi-tool (Ok, it's really a seam ripper, but humor me for a moment.) to make sure the raw edges of both the top and bottom fabrics were on top of each other when they slid under the needle.

For the bottom portion, I sewed a yellow strip of fabric and a larger strip of Kona black together. Then, I crosscut into strips of various widths.

I turned alternating strips upside-down and sewed them together.

I also sketched out some half-mariner's compasses, which I paper-pieced and pieced into more black Kona.
