Perfect Treats Quilt Along: Top Layout

As much as I like pieces everywhere, strewn about like confetti, I suppose we should get the Perfect Treats top pulled together.

First, cut (4) 2 1/2" x 20 1/2" Background A and (2) 2 1/2" x 32 1/2" to fill in a few gaps. Here's a design wall overview with the placement of parts completed over the previous weeks. Check the previous posts if you missed out on any blocks by clicking on the top "Perfect Treats Quilt Along tab.

Where do we go from here. Let's combine a few things into larger block units. Attach a Push Pop block to the right side of one Ice Cream Cone block; attach a Push Pop block to the left side of another Ice Cream Cone block. Attach a 2 1/2" x 20 1/2" to the right side of one Ice Cream block and the left side of another Ice Cream block. Attach a Snow Cone block to the 2 1/2" x 20 1/2" sashing of each of the freshly created units. Attach a Push Pop Block to a Snow Cone Block.

That brings our design wall to this stage.

Next stitch the top row together by sewing an Ice Cream Cone / Push Pop block to the left of a Popsicle block. Add a  2 1/2" x 20 1/2" A to the left side of the Snow Cone / Ice Cream Cone block. Complete the row by attaching the two units.

Attach an Ice Cream Sandwich block to the bottom of a Snow Cone / Push Pop block. Attach another Ice Cream Sandwich block to the top of a Popsicle block. Make 2.

Stitch the bottom row together by sewing a 2 1/2" x 20 1/2" A to the right of a Ice Cream Cone / Snow Cone block. Attach a Push Pop / Ice Cream Cone block to the right of a Popsicle block.
Complete the row by attaching the two units.

Now our design wall is down to 7 units! Add a 2 1/2" x 32 1/2" to the right side of one Ice Cream Sandwich / Popsicle unit and to the left of the other. Stitch the remaining Ice Cream Sandwich unit to the sashing sides of the other 2 Ice Cream Sandwich units. Then, sew the 3 rows together.

Cut (6) 2 1/2" by width of fabric strips. Sew pairs end to end. Cut (2) strips 2 1/2" x 72 1/2" and attach to the right and left sides of the top. Cut the remaining strip 68 1/2" x 2 1/2" and attach to the bottom of the top.

If an outer border is desired, cut (8) 2 1/2" strips. Attach pairs end to end. Cut (2) 74 1/2" and attach to the right and left sides of the top. Cut (2) strips 72 1/2" and attach to the top and bottom.

Use 3 1/2" A squares to add stitch and flip triangles to the top corners of the units you created in the previous step.

Download templates for the paper cup unit. Print at 100% scale. Cut out three of each in the fabrics shown.

Sew these together using 1/4" seam allowances.

Assemble the snow unit, cup Unit, and 10 1/2" x 2 1/2" A as shown to make 3 blocks.

We're already finished with blocks! Next up will be assembly for the top.
