I confess, I've held out on you. While I've shown you a large array of quilts from the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta, I didn't disclose my entries. Well, today is the day to come clean. And to make it up to you, I'm also going to let you in on my critiques from the judge, Michelle Jackson.
My Entries
For the group category, I entered my gift from the New Mexico Quilter's Association for being president in 2013.
Gail's Heart Attack also had the chance to hang in the show.

XLV was also shown in the Small Innovative category.

My son's princess quilt was shown in the youth division and won Judge's Choice. He out-placed me, and I don't think he's going to let me live it down either.
If you missed my previous posts, here they are:

Oh dear. I doubt he will let you live that down. Can you argue that you had more than one amazing quilt in the show and call it even?
ReplyDeleteYou received great critiques on your entries! And your son's quilt is so cool.....I love the way he did the princess!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Granny Maud, you need to talk about how many of your quilts were selected for the juried show to perhaps balance it out! Thanks so much for sharing your critiques.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! A lovely lineup of quilts
ReplyDeleteYou did well with your entries! And I'm sure you are proud of your son's award. After all, his work is a credit to you as well. :)
ReplyDeleteAre her comments supposed to be...helpful? Or anything other than a basic observation? Also her comments make her sound like a more traditional quilter--there isn't balance in the first and colors look nice with grey--two very "modern" things that are encouraged.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are great! I've enjoyed these posts. I live down in Clovis and had planned to attend but I've been out of town for a month. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI love your quilts, especially Heart Attack, but your son's is wonderful. I can see why it won the judges award.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed seeing your quilts at the show, particularly for a chance to see XLV up close and in person. Thanks for sharing the judges comments. Although all the winning quilts were wonderful, it felt wrong that so few of the fantastic modern quilts had ribbons.
ReplyDeleteHow great for your son!
ReplyDeleteIt must be very difficult for the judges to really comment on all the quilts - like any other art it is subjective and ultimately lies with the personal inclinations of the judges. I love XLV - the colours working well with gray is a given, so perhaps comment on the construction and overall balance of design would have been more useful?
Nice entries. I've seen that XLV quilt before somewhere, I think! And oh my goodness, your son's quilt is great.
ReplyDeleteThanks for "baring your soul" like this! It is really risky just getting up the nerve to ENTER a quilt, let alone reading what the judges said, and THEN sharing it in a public forum. However, it is a great learning experience for all of us. I haven't entered a judged show for YEARS, not sure I ever will again, even though my quilts did very very well (but it was a small town)! I think just getting juried in to a show of this calibre is a huge accomplishment; I love that group one, wow! My favourite, though, is Gail's Heart Attack.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts look great! My favorite is the Princess Quilt. Thanks for sharing the judge's forms, very interesting.
