Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 ABC-123 Review + Giveaway

Since Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 is my fusible of choice for appliqué, I was excited to try their new ABC-123 product, compliments of the fine folks at The Warm Company. Like Lite Steam-A-Seam 2, the fusible is sandwiched between two sheets of release paper, sticking to one of the sides. It has a tackiness that holds pieces conveniently in place, while being repositionable, before permanent fusing.
I decided to make our Blue Moon Quilt Group (Renee of Quilts of a Feather, Sara of Blue Quail Studio, Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl, and I) mascot, who also happens to be my youngest son, a shirt featuring his nickname, "The Cuteness".
Now that you've seen the finished product modeled, let's take a look at the process. Each package contains 8 sheets with numbers, letters, punctuation, and a few shapes. They are already reversed, and have multiple cutting sizes. I got a blank t-shirt and a mini charm pack of solids.
I cut roughly around each letter, peeled away the extra layer of release paper, made sure the fusible was still sticking to the side with printing, and fused the printed pieces to my mini charms. Each letter fit perfectly on a 2 1/2" square.
After cutting out each letter (I used the lines for the smaller letters.), I used a ruler to guide my spacing and alignment as I placed the slightly tacky letters. When I was satisfied with the arrangement, I fused it for a permanent hold. I didn't bother stitching the letters down because that seemed like way too much work, and I trust the Lite Steam-A-Seam to hold through the wash.
I have since washed the shirt, and all the letters are intact and looking good. I swear, I don't know where he gets his weirdness from!
Because The Warm Company is super generous, I have some more samples for some of you to try. If you'd like a chance to try LSAS 2 ABC-123, leave a comment below letting me know what clever phrase you'd produce. By my completely subjective determination, and in two weeks time, five lucky recipients will be sent a package of their very own to try. To double your odds, follow my blog and let me know in a separate comment. If you are anxious to see about it before then, it can be purchased at Connecting Threads.
Thanks for visiting, and good luck!

  1. The Cuteness is a doll! He certainly has a personality and one that will take him far in life, making friends and be sociable. Just this morning, I saw a little guy at the library with a shirt that said on the back "Mr. Crabby Pants". I even asked his mom if I could take a picture, it was that cute. So, I'd make a shirt for my little niece that says "Miss Crabby Pants" so she could sport one just like it!

  9. I would love to try this out so much! My mother made me a quiet book when I was three and it has now been through seven kids across two generations. It needs a new cover. I've tried before but it turns out I'm pretty crap at freehand tracing letters. With these letters I can get a new cover done and off my to-do list!

  11. I don't have clever in my head but I need to put names on the stockings for my grandchildren and this would sure work. I could make some placemats too or maybe I could make a quilt out of the leftover Christmas fabric it is all Suess and use a clever Suess saying. Only you can control your future.

  14. The Cuteness is a perfect nickname for him! How adorable :) Also, how convenient to have the letters already printed on the fusible! I've been playing around with a quilt design that features the word Dream, so I guess that's what I'd go for. Thanks for the chance to win :)

The semi-colon represents having survived a mental health issue.

  18. Your son really is a cutie. I think the phrase I would use would be, "Stop the violins -- promote whirled peas". Another one I might do is, "Shoot wildlife with a camera, not a gun".

  22. So cute! No wonder you call him that! I have used steam-a-seam befor and love it! What a great idea having letter preprinted, it takes the guess work out of it! A phrase...well, I have one phrase I say all the time. More often than I should. It includes a swear word so I won't share on your blog! Especiall with 'The Cutness' in the room!

  24. I know exactly what I would do! I have a grandbaby (now almost 2 years old) who has a look about her ever since she began to sit on her own which made me dub her as Little Miss Casual. I've been planning to draw one of those Little Miss characters on something and then letter it with "Little Miss Casual". So far my idea is to put that on a little backpack. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  26. I quilt and would like to see how it works in a quilt. I shy away from machine applique as the fabric will separate from the background before I get all of it sewn down. The fusible I have used before never seemed to stay stuck.

  27. I would use the letters to personalize items with my kids' names on them! Plus it would be fun to use them on kitchen towels too!

  30. Oh my goodness... The Cuteness is right! He's adorable!

I think I'd create something with the phrase... "Shifts Happen"... kind of a play on "Sh*t Happens" because right now... there's a lot of both going on in my life!! :)

Thanks for the giveaway and for the dose of cuteness!

  39. Thank you so much for the chance you're giving us to win this awesome product!
Buy the fact that I'm Italian, I would write a word I invented for my little boy eight years ago! That's CUZZACCHIOTTO
It's a mix-match of two words, one is cucciolo (puppy) and the other is orsacchiotto (teddy bear)
    hope you like it! ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  40. And this same word can be changed in PUZZACCHIOTTO
I have to admit this was the very first word I invented for him, and was a mix of stinky and teddy bear, if you ever had a little thing in your life you can easily understand why :))

  48. This is not an idea I can claim as my own, but for quite a while I have wanted to make my son a shirt that says "STUNT MAN" but with the words upside down (I saw it somewhere, but can't recall where!). He is always balancing upside down on his head on our couch- so it would be perfect!
