Quilt Fiesta Santa Fe: Part I

I attended the Northern New Mexico Quilt Guild's biannual quilt show, Quilt Fiesta Santa Fe the second weekend in October and thought you might like to see some of the highlights. I'm sorry some of the lighting isn't optimal; the convention center had mostly natural lighting via skylights and very minimal auxiliary lighting.
Learning Curve: Pot with Rainbow Curve by Ruth Hamelink won second in the Innovative Art category.

The color scheme of Lines-Curved and Straight: Mostly Aubergine by Ruth Hamelink and quilted by Joan Duvall, calls bacon to mind for me more than eggplant. Perhaps it's time I had lunch and reconsidered my dietary habits. Or maybe I'm just thinking about Debbie of A Quilter's Table's Bee Sewcial Bacon Quilt.

First place in the Small Pieced category went to The Cougar by Nicole Dunn, who was inspired by Lisa Kroll.

This one doesn't look any simpler up close.

Trip to Japan, also pieced by Nicole Dunn, was inspired by Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match by Mary McCusker. It took second place in the Pieced Group category.

Tears in Heaven by Nancy Steidle won Best Original Design and first in Innovative Art. Nancy is certainly a master of elegant embellishment and layering.

  3. I definitely see the similarity to "bacon" in the eggplant quilt, and the pot and cougar quilts kind of blow my mind.

  4. I'm with Yvonne on all counts (I thought bacon, too), but I totally love that pot quilt that you led with. I've enjoyed the show so far (this post and your next one) as it's always great to see the quilts from different regions. Thanks!
