Blogger's Quilt Festival

In case you haven't heard, the Blogger's Quilt Festival has begun. The linky party is open until Friday, if you'd like to enter a quilt. Categories include Mini, Small, Large, Applique, Art, Hand Quilted, Home Machine Quilted, Modern, Original Design, ROYGBIV, and Scrappy.

I have not yet revealed my completed Modern Sampler quilt to the online world, as he's been serving as a class sample up until recently. (I don't know why this fella is a "he", but humor me, will you?) At last, he's had his chance in the sun. Literally, as I took him outside of my dimly lit home for glamour shots. (I have a personal housecleaning theory that if you close the blinds and dim the lights, the dust is less apparent. Just kidding. Ok, I'm at least partially kidding.)

If you haven't met him before, you can see some details of his childhood in my earlier post.

Here he is laying out on the luscious green grass. Full disclosure here: This is not my
grass. This isn't even grass in my neighborhood. My grass is more of a neutral color. I'd show you the ugly truth, but I've already told you my dusting secret, so it will have to wait until another post so you aren't overwhelmed with too much reality at once.

I'm entering my Modern Sampler in the Small Quilt category, as it is 39" x 54". Don't underestimate him though; he's plenty tough. In fact, how about some shots of him enjoying on of his favorite pastimes--rock climbing? He scaled this beast without breaking a sweat.

As, you may have guessed, this modern man enjoys athletic pursuits. Check out his textured mid-section. Yep, those core exercises have been paying off. Don't tell him how much definition he has there, because he'll get a big head about it.

Now he's just showing off! "I could do a pull up too if I wanted, maybe. But I don't. So there."

"Tree climbing? Really? Get down before you fall on your head." I suppose I can't fault him. I do love a man with a good sense of humor.

Here's a candid shot I took as he was traipsing across the rocks.

Awww! I love this one. I think it really captures his whole essence. He's working it from head to toe, and has found the light.

I do adore his contemplative nature, which I've captured in this lifestyle shot. Isn't it sweet how he takes time to gaze upon the clouds and smell the roses, or ... unknown southwestern plant? My apologies, I am not a member of Master Gardeners. If you I actually showed you my yard, then you'd understand.

Well, I think you've seen enough of my new man. If you are crushing on him, won't you please vote for him in the Man of the Year Competition, or perhaps the Blogger's Quilt Festival.

  1. I loved your commentary about "his" endeavors almost as much as the quilt itself!

  4. He is one good looking lean machine! Just saying......he would look good in any room in my house! He wears his colors well and can tell he has worked out that body with some great quilting exercises--he is ripped (Sorry-- I am getting alittle hot and bothered here!).
    Great Job!!!!

  5. So lovely, I love the combination of different blocks with the intricate or simple quilting on each block. Absolutely lovely. I'm sure it killed you to hold off on posting pics of this till BQF huh?

  6. Too funny. Your man is pretty studly. I love that zen garden block (the one with the applique blobs?). It kept drawing my eye because of those mini sand boxes you make designs in with a tiny rake.

Anyway, the quilting is also really awesome. I imagine it took a while to trace out those ghost blocks, but I love that they are all different modern blocks just quilted.

    Good luck!

  10. Wow, he's such a MAN! The quiet type, eh? Shy? But you could just tell from that glint in his eyes that he has plans for later...
I thoroughly enjoyed this post. Did you plan it before you took the pics?

    1. Oooh, you picked up on that glint, eh? Excellent perception. I can't claim methodical planning on this, just an upload impluse, if you will.

  11. The quilt is awesome - a definite example of modern but your description of every photo and all of his "attributes" is hilarious! Loved it.

  13. So buff! Really gorgeous work- Great color choices. It's really remarkable- if someone asked me what the colors it was, I'd say light pink and blue, but yet your design sense and other color choices make it feel modern and adult. Lovely!
