Update: The winner is Little Black Cat Quilting #44.
Welcome new and long-time visitors. If you're visiting from Giveaway Day, I'm so glad you came!
I'd love if you'd consider stopping back when you get a chance. Below is a quick snapshot of the type of sewing projects I've been up to lately. Quilting Mod is also a great place to find highlights from quilt shows, tutorials, free patterns, a linky party collection, and a quilt-alongs.
I have several more giveaways going on, so you might want to follow the Quilting Mod blog via Bloglovin', Feedly, or e-mail (in the sidebar) so that you don't miss out. I'm on Instagram too!
If you are a regular around here, I'd like to mention how much I appreciate you. I'd also be remiss if I didn't give you a heads up about the massive amount of fun sewing-related giveaways happening now at Sew Mama Sew.
Let's get to the details about the prize and how to get in the running. For your chance to win a scrap quilting bundle including Thimbleberries Scrap Quilts, Scraps Plus One! and Addicted to Scraps along with a couple charm packs from Marcus Fabrics tell me in the comments how you deal with scraps. For an extra entry, tell me how you follow the Quilting Mod blog. A winner will be selected Monday, Dec. 12.
I have a basket in which I collect them. I've made one quilt from its contents, but it's starting to overflow. Time to work on that again, or get a second basket. We're all collectors, right? I follow you on Bloglovin. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteI keep them organized by size-if super small I cut to a square, otherwise I keep by color. (Or I give away to someone else!)

DeleteMy scraps are only partly organized (by color) and even though I regularly use them to make small and large projects they seem to multiply! It's a common problem, I believe. They are too pretty to get rid of though!
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog on my blogger dashboard/GFC.
ReplyDeleteMy scraps are a bit of a mess right now. Usually they're organized by color, but I've been working on a Christmas project. Thanks, grinnie1961 at gmail dot com

ReplyDeleteI Bloglovin you around ;-)
ReplyDeleteI cut up some of my scraps to usable sizes, but most of them end up in a big basket.

ReplyDeleteI guess I don't deal with them good enough as they keep growing!! But right now I piecing donation quilts like crazy with those scraps. I did go through them a couple years ago and cut certain sizes for 5 different quilts, that helped to have them ready.
ReplyDeleteFollowing on Bloglovin.

ReplyDeleteI put all my scraps in a large bin, in hopes of creating scrap quilts. Maybe it's time I started...

ReplyDeleteI cut my scraps into 2.5 inch strips or charm sizes. I love making scrappy quilts.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of the inspiration, and I follow you via e-mail.
ReplyDeleteI am obviously not dealing with my scraps very well as they are accumulating faster than I can use them. I try to make string blocks. Between projects to keep them in check. I store them in huge totes until I can get to them.

ReplyDeleteMy scraps are sorted by shape- squares and rectangles. Anything that can't be made to fit one of those categories is put into the scrap pillow- basically a rectangular bag that I made out of extra blocks that is being filled with tiny scraps and cuttings. Once it is full, it is sewn shut and becomes a bolster pillow.
ReplyDeleteallisonpogany at gmail.com
I put them into a basket as I sew and (in theory) sort that basket by color when it gets full. I keep the colored scraps with their larger cuts of the same color fabrics - I LOVE scrappy looking things so I find I use them more when I see everything at once!
ReplyDeleteKepp scrap strips in a plastic container. Keep other scraps in a smaller container. Small scraps are always great for applique!
ReplyDeleteI follow you on bloglovin'.
ReplyDeleteI keep my scraps in bags. Only sort of organized.
ReplyDeletePerfect prize package for me, Afton! I consider all of my fabrics scraps!
ReplyDeleteI sort my scraps by color or style. I don't cut them until I know what size and shape I need for a project. Once they are down to string or crumb size everything goes into the same bin.
ReplyDeleteI love scraps! I cut everything into strips and have at. I just made my first big scrap quilt last week...twin size is big for me. Love it. Need more ideas! And I follow via email.
ReplyDeleteI keep every last bit of fabric I can. I throw "left overs" from quilting and sewing projects into a bin and when I start another project I sort through the collection, looking for those I can use. I hope to some day switch to "pre cutting" the scraps into usable sizes and storing them that way. It will be much neater and easier to see what I have. I love my scrap bin!
ReplyDeleteI throw all scraps into a plastic bin or one of my drawers, & eventually go through them & make scrap quilts out of them. Organized I'm not

I wait until they are taking over the corner of the quilt room and then I start sewing 'make-fabric' blocks or something else that requires very little cutting!
ReplyDeleteI did the rainbow scrap challenge this year and worked through a lot of scraps making a 1920s farmer's wife quilt. I am currently using some of my scraps in a leader and ender project that will be a baby quilt. :)
ReplyDeleteMy scraps are getting a bit out of hand but right now I have then separated by color in cloth bins on a bookshelf. A friend and I are planning on having a scrap-tastic quilting year in 2018 to get rid of our scrap but I don't know if my poor bins will last until then.

ReplyDeleteI store them in jars until I have enough to make a quilt with.

ReplyDeleteHi Afton!!! my scraps collect themselves (don't know how they do it!) but they seem to congregate in corners of my room in baggies...then they throw themselves into bigger piles!!! the piles gather and get higher and higher until I can't get into the room and I am forced to make a scrap quilt!!!! ReplyDeleteI don't deal with scraps well at all! I have both large and small bins full of scraps. I seldom use them; I just keep adding to them!
ReplyDeleteI save all my scraps and love to make scrappy quilts.
ReplyDeleteDepends on the size. Big scraps go in a bin for small quilts and the really tiny ones I save for stuffing.
ReplyDeleteScraps seem to multiply sort of like coat hangers! I seem to find scraps most everywhere in my sewing room. Some I don't even remember seeing in a project!

ReplyDeleteI cut scraps as I cut my main project. I cut them into standard squares and strips (1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 5) and store them by color. I also use a leaders and enders and have a good stash of 2.5 inch squared sewed to white squares.
ReplyDeleteI have a basket that I keep them in. I would like to try organizing them by color.
ReplyDeleteI love scraps. other quilters save their scraps for me. I am known as the "Scrap Queen". Thanks for the giveaway.

I am new to your blog and found it on the Sew Mama Sew giveaway. I will definitely be back. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI usually organize in a large bin by colors. Not much of a stash, I'm afraid
ReplyDeleteI love using scraps and have them organized by square size, strips and chunks. The chunks are by color and brights vs reproduction in 12 canvas square totes in a bookcase. I'm far move apt to use them now and always have at least one scrap quilt in progress.

ReplyDeleteI keep my scraps in big ziploc bags, brandwise. I'm planning to sort them colorwise. I use them for bags, totes etc.
ReplyDeleteI have them in jars, boxes, and baggies. I super need to organize them but still feel like I can't commit to any one way yet! I love scrap quilts though so my fingers are so crossed for these books!!

ReplyDeleteI sort them by color and use them a lot in paper-piecing!
ReplyDeleteI used to hang the strips on hangers by colors, but just last month made space and got boxes so I have one for each color of the rainbow (plus one for black and whites). Not sure if this will work or not... I am sewing strips together as leader and enders now so at least something is getting joined together now!
ReplyDeleteI follow on instagram and blog-lovin. Thanks for the chance! These look very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh mostly at myself. I don't deal with them they deal with me. I am a basic mess with scraps.
ReplyDeleteThe reasonably sized pieces are with the rest of my stash, the really small pieces are in a bag, and the unusable shreds are in another bag (to be used as stuffing for softies, etc.).
ReplyDeleteNot very well--except that I let my kids use them for their sewing projects and that sort of works. :)
ReplyDeleteI cut them up into various sizes but most are stuffed in bags. I have some cut and set aside for making rope bowls but the other scraps are just stuffed!
ReplyDeleteAfter getting tired of digging through scraps lumped together I have started cutting them down before I put them away. Leftovers are cut to the largest common denominator I sort by plastic shoe box, sweater box or whatever you need. Then I can just grab out of the right size box to make a quilt!!

ReplyDeleteI love scrappy quilts and have a few going at once, so I try to cut up my scraps into the needed sizes right away--though I have a basket on top of my sewing cabinet where they accumulate until I cut them up, as well as a bin for strings and another for selvages that are both overflowing at the moment!
ReplyDeleteI love my scraps and as much as I'd LIKE to be more organized, it never really seems to happen. I tend to sort and store them by color, but the tiniest bits are in a jar near my sewing table. I love to see all the colors and let them inspire my creativity as I work!
ReplyDeleteScraps are in a container waiting to be organized! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeletei collect my scraps in an old knitting basket...in the pockets of my sewing machine cover....or wherever they land on my sewing table...unfortunately. I need to be more organized with them and maybe they'd equal a quilt one day!
ReplyDeleteAnything that can be folded is folded and put back in my drawers. From the rest I cut 2" squares. The leftovers from that go into a box, and anything over 1/2" I use to make "made fabric" squares by color and sew those into baby quilts. sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteI save all my scraps...working at turning them into Throws, potholders, baby qyuilts...Totes & zippy pouches! :)
